The collection for round sixteen of got-exchange is now open! Go here to read everyone's fic!

If you haven't done so yet, you might want to consider redating your fic - otherwise it'll show up under the date when you posted it and probably get lost in the main fandom tag. For this, edit your fic, click on "set different publication date" and change the publication date to the current date.

Everyone is expected to comment on the gift they received. If there are any issues with your gift (e.g. if your writer wrote a DNW), please contact me. Please also take the time to comment on other fics in the collection you enjoyed.

Let me know if you have any feedback on how the exchange went this time! Did the new AO3 set-up work for everyone? I'm always open to suggestions.

Edit: I just saw that a couple of fics aren't revealed yet. This seems to be some kind of AO3 bug, I'll try to find out what I can do about that. It's fixed now. :)

Unfortunately it looks like we've had a default from someone who asked for an extension, which means that reveals are going to be delayed by at least 24 hours. If anyone has the time and inclination to do a very last-minute pinch-hit, please let me know asap (PM to linndechir or email me at gotexchange[at]hotmail[dot]com).

I'll post another update as soon as I can say for sure when exactly the collection will open. I apologise for the delay, but I won't open the collection until everyone has a gift.

In the meantime, if you have any last edits to do on your fic, please get them in as soon as possible.

Update: We're all set to open 24 hours after original reveals, on Wednesday at 11.59 pm UTC. Again, apologies for the delay.

The deadline is in 7,5 hours, at 11.59pm UTC tonight. Please make sure to have your fic posted to this collection by then. If you need an extension, please contact me before then so I won't worry about you dropping out.

Please reply to this post to let me know whether you're still on track to finish your fic/art on time. The deadline is on Tuesday, November 14th, at 11.59pm UTC. Please post your fic on AO3, in the right sub-collection, by that date. There are instructions on how to post your fic in your assignment email as well as in this post. If you still have any questions, please don't hesitate to contact me.

If you have to drop out of the exchange, please let me know now so I can find a pinch-hitter. If you don't reply to this post, you'll get an email from me in a few days. If you've already posted your fic/art to the collection, you obviously don't have to check in again.

I just sent out the assignments. You should have received an email from gotexchange[at]hotmail[dot]com. If you haven't, please let me know as soon as possible.

The following information is the same as in the emails I've sent out, but I'll post it again here to make it easier to find:

Please post your fic to the got-exchange16 subcollection by Tuesday, November 14th, 11.59pm UTC. In order to post your fic:
  1. go to http://archiveofourown.org/collections/got_exchange16
  2. click on 'post to collection'
  3. add your recipient's AO3 name under 'Gift this work to'
  4. fill in everything else (title, summary, tags, your fic itself) and click on 'post'

Your fic will remain unrevealed (as a 'mystery work') until the collection is opened one week after the deadline. You may continue editing your fic during this week, but you are expected to post a finished story by November 14th.

You are expected to fill one of your recipient's prompts and to respect their Do Not Wants. Your fic needs to be at least 1000 words long, finished and to stand on its own (i.e. not a sequel to another fic, not the first part of a longer, unfinished story).

If you have any questions about how to post your fic, don't hesitate to ask me. If you have any questions for your recipient, please also contact me – don't contact your recipient directly.

If you have to drop out of the exchange, please let me know as soon as possible so I can find a pinch-hitter. There will be an obligatory check-in post on November 3rd.

Thanks for participating, and have fun writing!

Feedback was overwhelmingly in favour of leaving signups on Dreamwidth and moving posting to AO3. Thanks to everyone who replied last post! This means that you need an AO3 account to participate in got-exchange from now on. You don't necessarily need a DW account - I'm willing to let people sign up with anon comments or Open ID, as long as you provide an email address and your AO3 name.

I needed a little bit to figure out a schedule because I'm moving this month and the next weeks are therefore busy, but here it is:

Schedule:

Signups open: September 20th
Signups close: September 30th, 11.59am UTC
Assignments go out: October 3rd (at the latest)
Obligatory check-in post: November 3rd
Deadline: November 14th, 11.59pm UTC
Reveals: November 21st, 11.59pm UTC

Attention: Signups close on September 30th at noon UTC, which is early morning for those of you in the Americas. Please take that into consideration if you're in one of those timezones - you'll probably want to make sure you're signed up by the 29th. The posting deadline and reveals deadline will be at midnight UTC.

Signups will open next week. The signup form will pretty much stay the same as in the past. If you have any questions or suggestions, please don't hesitate to contact me.

All announcements will continue to be cross-posted on tumblr, so if you use tumblr more than DW, you might want to follow the got-exchange tumblr.

Like I said two days ago, I am planning to run the exchange again, but I also want to change a few things about the set-up. I think I figured out something that should work, but I would very much appreciate feedback. After all, an exchange needs to work for the people participating in it, not just for the mod.

This is a bit long, but please bear with me.

1) Exchange set-up

In the past, the exchange was entirely run on Livejournal, including the posting of everyone's fics. I don't want to keep doing it that way because it has several downsides - some people get their gift much earlier than others, you can't edit your work anymore because I'm the one who posted it, and it requires me to be online every day to post the day's fic (and often to keep fixing the layout because some people are impressively bad at HTML ;)). It's not ideal and I don't really have the time to do that anymore. If everyone insists on keeping it that way, I would absolutely need a reliable co-mod to help me out.

I would much prefer to move the posting part of the exchange to AO3. That way you control your work, you can post and edit it, everything can go into one collection that goes live on the same day. Basically the way most other exchanges do it these days (although there most likely wouldn't be an anon period because got-exchange has never had one and I don't really see why we should start now).

However, putting signups on AO3 seems like a hassle for this exchange. I don't want to bother with a tag set and nominations when you can request and offer whatever you like, the signup form isn't really ideal for all the information I need for decent hand-matching, and the AO3 interface for exchanges is a pain in the ass for hand-matching (I've hand-matched smaller single-fandom exchanges on AO3 in the past year, but even for 10-15 participants that was annoying - got-exchange has rarely had under 30 participants, sometimes up to 50, and I do not want to deal with that on AO3).

My suggestion would be as follows: we do signups here on Dreamwidth the way we used to do them on Livejournal (but with anon comments allowed), you receive an email with your assignment and an explanation of how to post your fic/art on AO3. This would require everyone to actually follow those instructions to make sure they post their fic to the collection (so it's revealed on the right date) rather than just randomly posting their fic on AO3. There are some exchanges that do this (the Tolkien Slashy Santa and its related exchanges come to mind) and it seems to work out fine.

The alternative: we do signups here on Dreamwidth AND on AO3 -  you put all the details of what you can and can't write here on DW, put basically an empty signup on AO3, and that way when I've hand-matched I can directly assign participants their recipient on AO3. That would make the signup process somewhat more complicated, but it would ensure that people (hopefully) don't mess up posting their fic/art.

I lean towards the first option because it's simpler and I'm reluctant to make people sign up on two sites, but I'm open to feedback and suggestions. I know neither option is ideal, but I think they're both still better than either staying completely on DW or moving completely to AO3.

2) Schedule

Once we've figured out how exactly we'll be doing things, I'd like to get the next round started asap so it won't overlap more with Yuletide than necessary. I'm thinking signups in September with a signup deadline mid-September, 6 weeks writing time until the deadline, which would be late October or early November, another week until author reveals during which pinch-hitters can work their magic, reveals some time in the first two weeks of November.

Sounds good?

Like I said, please let me know what you think. Anon comments are turned on, so you can comment even if you don't have a DW account.

First of all, my apologies for not updating this community for so long. I know I initially wanted to run a round in spring, but I needed a bit of a break. I am planning to get the next round up and running soon.

Second, though, due to a bunch of recent changes and Livejournal becoming more and more of a pain, I have decided to move the communtiy to Dreamwidth. I have turned on anonymous comments on DW for now, if you don't have an account. I have also imported all old posts, comments etc. to our new Dreamwdith community, and the old Livejournal community isn't going to be deleted (I mean, not from my side, who knows what Livejournal will get up to in the future). The only thing that won't work on DW are the old masterlists - they link to the Livejournal posts, obviously, not the new Dreamwidth posts, and I frankly do not have the time to re-do fifteen masterlists.

So if you plan on sticking around for the exchange, and you're on DW, please join this DW community.

Third, I want to make some changes to how the exchange is run. Update it a little, if you will, mostly because the current set-up is a lot of work for me. I will make a post about that in the next couple of days and I would very much appreciate feedback then.
[identity profile] linndechir.livejournal.com
All fics for round fifteen have been posted. You can find the masterlist here. Please take the time to comment on fics you enjoyed. This goes especially for everyone who hasn't commented on their gift fic yet.

My apologies that posting took a bit longer than anticipated, there were a few late pinch-hits. A big thank you to [livejournal.com profile] netgirl_y2k and [livejournal.com profile] crossingwinter for helping out with pinch-hits at a very short notice, and of course thanks to everyone else who participated, wrote fic, and commented. I hope everyone enjoyed their gift. :)

If you repost your fic on AO3, you can add it to the got_exchange collection, if you like. I think next round will happen some time next spring; with Yuletide and other holiday exchanges coming up, I figure most of you will be kept busy enough until then anyway. Let me know if you have any suggestions or specific wishes for next time.
[identity profile] linndechir.livejournal.com
The deadline for your finished fic is today. Unless we've agreed on an extension, you should send in your fic by tonight. If you need a few more days or if you won't be able to finish your fic at all, please let me know, don't just disappear on me.

Posting will start tomorrow with one fic per day. I'll switch to two once everyone, including potential pinch-hitters, has sent in their fic. As always, please take the time to comment on fics you've enjoyed, even if you weren't the recipient, or if you weren't signed up for the exchange. You are obviously expected to comment on the fic written for you.

You can crosspost your fic to AO3 and other sites after it has been posted here on the community. If you like, you can then add your fic to the got-exchange collection on AO3.
[identity profile] linndechir.livejournal.com
Sorry this post is so late, I wasn't home for most of the week. Please reply to this post to let me know whether you're still on track to finish your fic/art on time. The deadline is in one week, on Sunday, September 11th.

If you have to drop out of the exchange, please let me know now so I can find a pinch-hitter. If you don't reply to this post, you'll get an email from me in a few days. If you've already sent in your fic/art, you obviously don't have to check in again.

A few things to remember when you send your fic/art to me:

1) Include a header in the following format:
Title:
Author/Artist:
For:
Pairings/Characters:
Rating:
Words:
Warnings: (don't forget to warn for spoilers)
Prompt:
(Summary, if the prompt was rather vague)

2) Fics should ideally be sent in as text files (.txt). doc, docx and odt are also fine.

3) Fic writers: please include html coding for italics etc. Make sure your formatting works and that there is a BLANK LINE between every two paragraphs, i.e. that you hit enter twice after every paragraph, not just once. You have to do this manually. It is not enough to tell Word to leave a bigger space between paragraphs because that will not show up when your fic is copied & pasted on LJ. I know that should be obvious, but there's always someone who forgets about it and it makes fics pretty hard on the eyes.

4) Your fic should be beta read or at least spell-checked very thoroughly. If you don't know anyone who can beta for you, please contact someone from this list.

Thank you. If you have any problems or questions, please talk to me.
[identity profile] linndechir.livejournal.com
First of all, my apologies for this much longer hiatus than I had initially planned. I have no good excuse for this. But now we're back in business.

Sign-ups for round fifteen are going to open in two weeks. The schedule:
Sign-ups: July 11th - July 22nd
Assignments out: July 24th
Deadline: September 11th
Posting starts on: September 12th

I hope that works for most of you. There's a tumblr post you can reblog if you want to help advertise the exchange. If you have any questions or suggestions, let me know.
[identity profile] linndechir.livejournal.com
My apologies for taking so long to post the masterlist; between the holidays and Yuletide the last week was pretty busy. You can find this round's masterlist here. Thank you to everyone who participated, and a special thank you to [livejournal.com profile] vanaofthevalar for pinch-hitting. I hope that everyone enjoyed participating and liked the gift they received. If you haven't commented on your gift yet, please remember to do so as soon as possible. And if you catch up on any other fics you've missed, take the time to leave a little comment, too.

If you repost your fic on AO3, you can add it to the got_exchange collection. I think I need a small modding break, and considering the low signup numbers this time maybe some of you also need a small writing break, so I'll probably wait until spring with the next round, if that's all right with everybody. Maybe until March or April, I'll see what could work. As always, if you have any feedback or suggestions, let me know. :)

The deadline is in two weeks, on Sunday, November 29th. Please reply to this post to let me know whether you will be able to finish your fic/art on time or not. If you have to drop out, please tell me now so I can find a pinch-hitter. Don't wait until the deadline to drop out, and don't just disappear without a word. If you think you will need a small extension, please tell me as soon as possible, but I'd appreciate if everyone could at least try to meet the deadline. If you don't reply to this post in the next few days, you'll get an e-mail from me. Obviously you don't have to check in if you've already sent in your fic/if you've already dropped out.

Here's the schedule for round 14:

- sign-ups will open on Monday, September 28th
- sign-ups will close on Friday, October 9th
- assignments will be sent out on Sunday, October 11th
- obligatory check-in post on November 13th
- the deadline for your completed fic/art is Sunday, November 29th
- posting will start on Monday, November 30th

I know that will still overlap with NaNoWriMo, but that was unfortunately unavoidable this time. But at least it'll leave several weeks between the got-exchange and the Yuletide deadline. I hope this schedule works for most of you. And for those of you who can't participate, there'll always be another round next year. :)
[identity profile] linndechir.livejournal.com
The last fics for round 13 have been posted. I am very sorry about the irregular posting towards the end of the round; I wasn't home much in the last two weeks and didn't always have the time. My apologies; that won't happen again. You can find the masterlist for this round here. If you catch up on any fic and art you've missed, please take the time to comment. This goes especially for anyone who hasn't commented on their gift yet.

If you repost your fic on AO3, you can add it to the got_exchange collection. Thanks to everyone who has participated by writing, drawing, beta-reading, and commenting, and a special thank you to [livejournal.com profile] yaakov and [livejournal.com profile] leapylion3 for pinch-hitting. I hope that everyone enjoyed participating and liked the gift they received.

I'm going to figure out a schedule for the next round soon, but I'm thinking that we could fit in another round this year, maybe with sign-ups in early October and a deadline in late November - that way everything should be done before Yuletide and various Secret Santa deadlines in December. Does that sound okay?

Any feedback and suggestions are, as always, welcome. And again, I'm really sorry about the messy posting towards the end.
[identity profile] linndechir.livejournal.com
The deadline is in two weeks, on Sunday, August 2nd. Please reply to this post to let me know whether you will be able to finish your fic/art on time or not. Sign-ups for round 13 close tomorrow (Friday), so if you want to participate and still haven't signed up, you should do so soon. As always, you can sign up as long as there isn't a big red "Sign-ups are closed" on the sign-up post. You can sign up here. You can also still sign up as a beta reader for other participants.

You will receive an email with your assignment on Sunday (or Monday at the very latest).
[identity profile] linndechir.livejournal.com
I just closed the poll. About half of you voted for the next round happening right away, but since the other half voted for sign-ups later, I've decided to wait for a few weeks to accommodate as many people as possible. So here's the schedule for round 13:

- sign-ups will open on Monday, June 1st
- sign-ups will close on Friday, June 12th
- assignments will be sent out on Sunday, June 14th
- obligatory check-in post on July 18th
- the deadline for your completed fic/art is Sunday, August 2nd
- posting will start on Monday, August 3rd

I hope that works for most of you. If you have any questions, don't hesitate to contact me.
