If you're okay with receiving both fic and art, please make sure to write prompts that work for both. Either phrase your prompts in a way so they can be used for both fic and art, or write separate prompts (i.e. 4-6 fic prompts AND 4-6 art prompts). That's far easier for artists than getting fic prompts and only an added "I like art, too."

If your sign-up includes spoilers (prompts like "what happened after character X did this or that in ADWD?"), please warn for them so other participants don't get spoiled accidentally while reading through the sign-ups.

Please try to have a little bit of variety in your prompts. It's perfectly okay to want only fic about a certain character or group of characters, but if all your prompts are smut for the exact same pairing, it may get really hard for your writer. Also, please don't request six incredibly rare pairings. Rare ships are very welcome, but I will have trouble finding someone who can write for you if you have six prompts with ships that literally no other participant offered to write (and similarily, I will have trouble finding a recipient for you if you only offer to write/draw pairings or characters that nobody requested). The same goes for extremely detailed prompts and crossover prompts: one or two of those are okay, but not six of them. As a general rule, please remember that someone has to write/draw one of your prompts. Don't make their life unnecessarily difficult.

Send your finished fic/art to gotexchange[at]hotmail[dot]com by August 2nd. If you need an extension or if you have to drop out, please contact me as soon as possible. Don't just disappear. I reply to every email I get on the exchange account. If I do not reply to your email after a day or two, please assume that I did not get your message and resend it.

Please only send me fics as text files (.txt), or if that's not possible as .doc, .docx or .odt. Please include html tags for italics etc. in your file and check if your formatting works properly. Either ask someone to beta read your fic for you or at least proofread your fic thoroughly. If you don't know anyone who could beta for you, you can contact one of the people who signed up on this beta reader post.

What kind of gift do you want to receive?

Preferred characters and/or pairings: My favorite characters are Sam Tarly, Jon Snow, Theon Greyjoy, and Ygritte. My top ships are Jon/Sam (explicitly romantic please), Theon/Jon, Sam/Alleras (trans Alleras only; if you’re not certain you can do it respectfully, please pick a different ship), Gilly/Ygritte, and Sam/Gilly. I love all the Starks and would love if Stark family relationships are involved if relevant/possible (something exploring gen Catelyn & Jon or gen Sansa & Jon relationships would be AMAZING). I also love the Night Watch and the wildlings (especially Gilly, Pyp, Grenn, Satin, Edd, Val, Mance, Qhorin, Benjen, Jeor, and Tormund), and would love if they were involved. Ditto for Mormonts other than Jorah and most Northerners in general aside from Boltons (except Walda, she’s cool). I really love stuff exploring friendship and family/sibling relationships as well as stuff exploring more complicated, tense relationships like Catelyn & Jon’s.

Characters and/or pairings you do NOT want to see/read about: Cleganes, Boltons (unless you’re dealing with the fallout of the abuse Theon and others faced at their hands), Petyr Baelish, Freys aside from Roslin and Walda, Craster, Targaryens except Aemon, Balon, Victarion and Euron Greyjoy (Balon is alright if his presence in the story is primarily through his impact on Theon—same with Randyll Tarly and Sam), Robert Baratheon, Tywin Lannister, Jorah Mormont, and any ships involving those characters (again, unless it’s dealing with the impact they had on a character that I actually like). PLEASE DO NOT INCLUDE, AT ALL, NOT EVEN A LITTLE: Jon/Satin (Satin on his own or shipped with another character is GREAT); Sansan; incest (mentions of canon incest is ok); Asha/Tris or Qarl or Stannis or Justin; Jon/Melisandre.

What genre of fic/art do you generally want? I tend to prefer happyish fic that also deals with (or at least doesn’t dismiss) heavier stuff. I also like angstier stuff IF it’s focused on recovery, rebuilding, and/or hope, and doesn’t dismiss or ignore happy things. So EXTREME fluff and EXTREME angst aren’t really favs, but if you're gonna err on one side I'd prefer it to be on the fluff side. I like humor but I’m not wild about “crack.” I like slice of life, H/C, and alternate canon (/what-if/canon divergent) AUs best, but I’m not OPPOSED to canon-compliant stuff, modern AUs, or futurefic. I love get-together fic, especially when pining is involved. I also really really love shippy fic that also places a high importance on relationships outside of the main ship. Relationship studies are a big fav.

PART THREE: Prompts

1.) Sam keeps Jon in check. Jon gets angry at someone (poss for being rude to Sam), and starts looking like he might resort to violence. The other person sneers at him and says, “Call off your dog, Tarly.” BC everyone knows when Sam says “heel,” Jon heels, and when Sam says “down, boy,” Jon backs down. I’d like something exploring the checks and balances in their relationship, esp Sam gently calming Jon down, but also if you include Jon balancing out Sam, and like, being protective and encouraging Sam to have more faith in himself, I’d love it. ESPECIALLY if they get together over the course of the fic (as opposed to established relationship). Canon compliant, alt-canon AU, modern AU, w/e.
2.) Love letters between Jon and Sam (or another one of my ships; anything but modern AU). "I miss you even more than I could have believed; and I was prepared to miss you a good deal." -Vita Sackville-West’s letter to Virginia Woolfe
3.) Jon/Theon with Theon at the Wall. Either alt-canon AU where he took the Black or futurefic.
4.) Canonverse or canon au Jon realizes he’s attracted to men. Maybe he sees his crush on Jaime Lannister or Mance Rayder for what it is, maybe he wonders why he’s so upset at Sam for trying to help Gilly (that scene screamed jealousy to me), maybe he walked in on Theon with Patrek Mallister (or a stableboy or whatever, just not Robb for this prompt, please.) or Pyp with Grenn and can’t get the image out of his mind. Maybe he’s on watch duty with Sam or getting along with Theon for once and there’s a weird intense moment and Jon gets the urge to kiss him. Maybe, pre-Ygritte, he wonders why he’s never been interested in girls (if you share my HC that he’s demisexual in his attraction to women) and that leads to some uncomfortable realizations. Navel-gazing and light angst welcome (both of the “what would my father/the object of my affections think” and assumed-to-be unrequited feelings variety), but so is humor; a mix of both would be ideal. I'd love it if he goes on to have a relationship with Theon or Sam (or even Ygritte, if you include a discussion of this with her). This prompt may be difficult to do respectfully if you’re straight.
5.) Something dealing with Sam becoming a maester. Could be canon-compliant (and focus on Sam in Oldtown or Sam going back to the Wall) or an au where Sam ran away to become a maester instead of going to the Wall (bonus if Sam winds up on the Wall somehow anyway). Prefer Shippy but won’t complain about gen.
6.) Canon divergence fostering AU with one of my faves. Suggestions: Sam fostering at Winterfell; Jon going to squire for Brynden Tully; Theon winding up as Stannis's ward/hostage instead of Ned's; Alleras getting sent to the Wall instead of going to Oldtown. I can't figure out a way to adapt this prompt to my Wildling favs but if you can, PLEASE go for it.


Your pet peeves and other things you DO NOT WANT in your story/art: Minimal “you know nothing”ing, please. I don’t care much for R+L=J, but if you MUST, please don’t linger on it—if in a modern AU, please don’t include it at all. I dislike overly saccharine fluff (no conflict, Nothing Bad Has Ever Happened Or Will Happen Ever, or distorting characters to make everything super happy), shippy fic that dismisses/demonizes canon love interests, shippy fic that dismisses all other important relationships in the shipped characters' lives; past abuse being dismissed as a one-off thing that no longer affects the victim (“Jon yelled at Sam’s brother/father and swept Sam off into the sunset and there were no consequences and everything was peachy!”). No incest (mentions of canon incest is fine), nothing sexually explicit involving underage characters (mentioned/offscreen/implied is alright if it’s btwn chars who are in their late teens, but not if only one party is underage). If the story involves rape or abuse, I’d prefer if it focused not on the rape/abuse itself but on the fallout/recovery. More interested in the characters and relationships between and among them than who winds up on what throne. Poly ships aren't my preference.

Yes! <3 This pairing has been in my head for years, but I've never read any fic on it. I don't think I've ever seen fic with Alleras as trans at all. Or maybe I haven't searched enough? I've certainly come across fic with male-passing female!Alleras, but that is NOT my headcanon.

i've only read one fic that, like, at least IMPLIED alleras was trans--it was a modern au where alleras was a side character, he was there as arianne's cousin, and the narration mentioned he had a slight stache which made me think of the sort of typical just-started-testosterone-and-can't-bring-himself-to-shave-yet stache but it was definitely just an implication. and i think that's the only time i've read it, which sucks because i keep HOPING people are writing trans alleras but it's always just, you know, cis-sarella-in-disguise. but i'm definitely going to write it someday (i've been saying that for probably two years now, but i WILL). i have to do nonbinary arya at some point too, and i have this really involved AU in my head with trans woman margaery tyrell...

Ah, I hardly ever read AU, so I probably miss a lot of good stuff. I've srsly been needing to write some trans Alleras fic as well. Years, I tell ya. I need to get it out before Winds of Winter so it can be "canon compliant" for awhile.

i totally feel ya. i like the plausible deniability that comes with "girl-disguising-herself-as-a-boy" storylines where i can just be like "yeah, this character is trans" and feel like MAYBE it's supported by canon.

fortunately, george seems like he's taking his sweet time with TWOW, so we can get to it whenever we get to it and we'll probably still put it out before he does :D

this fandom needs more trans HCs tbh!!!!

oh my god, i KNOW right? i swear i can't shut up about that bit, all my friends are sick of me talking about it. there are so many guys in canon that jon just crushes on REALLY hard and i love it, i can't get enough of it.
